Frankie’s Favorites: A Lindy Hop Series
Frankie, Freda, Willa, Ann, Norma and Mickey

Celebrate the legacy of Frankie Manning with a special May series inspired by the movements, rhythms, and joyful spirit he developed with his dance partners and shared with dancers around the world.

We’ll explore classic ideas Frankie loved to teach, including a grounded, low-to-the-floor Frankie-style swingout paired with swivels and Savoy twists for follows, and playful vocabulary like promenades, Frankie 6’s, scoots, sailor step, Texas Tommy, and scissor kicks. This series will not only help expand your dance vocabulary, it will help you improve your musicality and playfulness on the dance floor.

Pre-requisites:
Intermediate class. MUST be comfortable with core lindy hop 6/8 count moves such as the swingout, lindy circle, tuck turns, and side passes as well as transitioning between 6 and 8 count moves. Intermediate students likely have AT LEAST 1 year experience. They have taken a lot of classes and maybe a workshop or two, and are getting comfortable with the basics and are working on putting moves together and going out social dancing.

Individual Class Descriptions:

5/4 Frankie’s Favorites Part I

Dive into the classic moves Frankie loved to teach—like promenades, pecking sequences, and Frankie 6’s—while building rhythm, flow, and confidence on the social dance floor. We’ll focus on playful vocabulary and musicality that bring Savoy-era Lindy Hop to life.

5/11 Frankie’s Favorites Part II

Expand your Frankie vocabulary with more classic moves Frankie loved to teach—like around the world into points, the sailor step, and the minnie dip—while building rhythm, flow, and confidence on the social dance floor. We’ll focus on playful vocabulary and musicality that bring Savoy-era Lindy Hop to life

5/18 Frankie & Savoy Style Swingouts & Rhythm

Refine your swingouts with the grounded, rhythmic feel of Savoy-style Lindy Hop—low, connected, and full of groove and swivels. We’ll explore classic variations, musical phrasing, and iconic movements that make your swingouts more dynamic and alive.

Please come prepared to do both back out and forward out swingouts.

» What's a practicum and social dance? «
We DJ music just like a regular social dance. You can come out and just dance like normal, or you can come planning to work on something: Ask for feedback, work on a move, play with variations, master a routine.

» Have a specific question? «
Experienced dancers and local teachers are available at practicum to help out with sticky spots.

» Balboa? Shag? Solo? Learning swingouts? «
Let the DJ know what you're working on if you have specific music requests!
